UGANDA WILDLIFE AUTHORITY

Uganda Wildlife Authority is Uganda’s Government super-star agency responsible for the management and protection of Wildlife in and outside protected areas. The agency is supervised by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities.

In total, the good folks at UWA manage 10 National Parks; 12 Wildlife Reserves; 5 Community Wildlife Management Areas; and 13 Wildlife Sanctuaries. The ten National Parks include Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls, Kidepo Valley, Kibale, Mount Elgon, Rwenzori Mountains, Semuliki, Mgahinga Gorilla, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Parks. These parks display the best in East Africa. Their Rift Valley landscapes and tropical forests make dramatic backdrops to an extensive variety of flora and fauna.

Simply said, the men and women on the ground preserving Uganda’s wildlife are heroes. It is an honor to support this wonderful organization that is responsible for some of the best conservation efforts in the world.

ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY

The Rhino Re-introduction Project was a joint project between Rhino Fund Uganda and the Roy family. Six southern white rhinos were introduced to Ziwa back in 2006. But, since then we have had 26 successful births, bringing our number to 32. Presently, Ziwa is the only place in Uganda where you can see rhinos in the wild.

Ziwa is conveniently located 176km (109 miles) from Kampala on the Gulu Highway heading north towards Murchison Falls National Park. If you’re driving north, you should turn left at the Nakitoma Trading centre. We are a few kilometres away.

CONSERVATION THROUGH PUBLIC HEALTH

CTPH aims to be an internationally-renowned leader in gorilla and wildlife conservation by improving the health of wildlife and ecosystems and humans and their livestock in and around Africa’s protected area. This is achieved through a multidisciplinary approach that focuses on preventing and controlling disease transmission between closely genetically related species such as people and gorillas, and cattle and buffalo, and promoting a better quality of life that reduces local communities’ dependence on fragile habitats to meet their basic needs.

CTPH has three main strategic programs: Gorilla Conservation, One Health and Alternative Livelihoods.  Poverty alleviation and improving rural public health will contribute to greater biodiversity conservation and sustainable development in and around Africa’s protected areas.
